Benefits of Detox Bath and How to Make Fizzy Bath Salts

A few months ago we started doing detox baths in our house. I have some health issues that make my body ache. My middle boys are athletes and put a lot of strain on their bodies. My youngest has some tummy issues and doesn’t like to use the restroom. I know, TMI, but with this blog, I’m keeping it real. This is life raising 4 boys!

My friend suggested we start taking detox baths with Epsom salts. We did and noticed the baths helped a lot, so much so that when we went to an out-of-town tournament I took bags of Epsom salt with me and I never use hotel baths! I wanted to know why the Epsom salt helped so much so I did a little research and found out it’s all about the detox. I also found some things to add to the bath! I’ll beak it down for you.

A detox bath is one of the ways we can help our body detox.

Toxins are everywhere. When you take your shower the water is full of pollutants, soap and shampoo have chemicals, even toothpaste has yucky stuff in it. There’s no way to get away from all the toxins around us so we need to help our bodies out! Taking a detox bath not only helps us get rid of toxins, but it also helps strengthen our immune system! That’s perfect for me since I have autoimmune diseases.

Detox baths usually have Epsom salts in them. Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate. It helps to release toxins and has other benefits:

  • Eases stress
  • Improves sleep
  • Helps with concentration
  • Help muscles function properly
  • Help prevent artery hardening and blood clots
  • Make insulin more effective
  • Reduce inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps
  • Improves your oxygen use
  • Improve absorption of nutrients
  • Help form joint proteins and brain tissue
  • Helps migraines

When I started searching online about detox baths I read to use baking soda as well. Here’s why:

  • Detoxes and alkalizes the body
  • Absorbs heavy metals
  • It increases mineral absorption
  • Soothes itching and skin irritations
  • Exfoliates and smoothes skin
  • It helps neutralize the chemicals in the water
  • Cleans your hair
  •  It helps alkalize your body
  • Relieves bites and burns

Ok enough of why these detox baths help. It’s time to make some fizzy bath salts!

HOW TO MAKE FIZZY DETOX BATH SALTS

• 1 cups Epsom Salt
• 1 cup  Baking Soda
• 1/2 cup Citric Acid
• 15 drops essential oils (optional)

Mix the salt, baking soda and citric acid well. If you choose to, add in a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Let the mixture start to dry.

For a nice foot bath, 1/3-2/3 cups fizzy bath salts is great. If you’re taking a bath add more.

*** I rather put my essential oils and mix in right before putting it in the bath. I don’t like essential oils in plastic and I like to change up what I use depending on the mood. Just get some of the mixture in your hand, drop some oils in it, mix and pour into the tub.

Everything you put on your skin gets absorbed into your body so I all the ingredients listed are high quality. I also recommend drinking a lot of water days you take your detox bath. You want to flush all those toxins out!
