How to get your kids to eat more fruit
Fresh nectarines and peaches

Getting to kids to eat healthy is sometimes hard. Now that summer is here it’s a little easier. It just takes a little prep work! I have 4 boys. They LOVE fruit, but if I buy fruit and leave it in the fridge it will go bad! On the other hand if I wash the fruit my kids will make it disappear!!!

How to get your kids to eat healthier

Lots of people just since their fruits and vegetables. That grosses me out!  I think of all the people at the market touching the fruit. You don’t know if they just picked their nose in the car on the way to the grocery store! You don’t know when the last time they washed their hands was or if they are sick. What is rinsing under cold water for a second going to do?   I soak my fruit. I use a little bit of fruit and veggie wash in a bowl of water and a couple drops of citrus oil. Sometimes I do vinegar instead of the veggie wash. I read it helps just as well. Soaking your fruits and veggies will not only clean them but will kill any mold spores your berries have so your fruit will last longer! Before I discovered this trick my raspberries and strawberries grew mold so quickly I always had to toss them out before my boys got around to eating them! Now, I don’t know how long they last before getting moldy because they disappear!

Make sure to rinse your fruit well

Make sure to rinse your fruit well after soaking!!!! This is especially true if you are soaking in a water and vinegar mixture. You do not want you fruit to taste like vinegar. I rinse and rub each fruit one by one, then put them in a colander to drain before laying them out to dry. I know this sounds long and tedious but it takes about 5 minutes to do all of it!   They only need to soak for 2 minutes, but I usually go longer because I get distracted.

Place fruit in a bowl where it’s easy to see in the refrigerator

Last step is to put your freshly washed fruit in the refrigerator where the kids can easily see and reach it. I leave mine in a glass bowl at eye level for my little ones. It’ super easy for them to see and grab. Now when they are hungry I just tell them to grab a fruit. Before when I would tell them to get fruit they would whine and ask me to wash it for them. It was super annoying because it was always when I was in the middle of something. Washing all the fruit at once right when I get home from the market really makes things easier for all of us! This whole bowl will be gone today I’m sure!

I hope that helps! Happy Summer Break!!!
