Learn Sight Words with Zingo Game
Moms of preschool-1st graders: this post is for you! G and I love Zingo games! This one is Sight Word Zingo. Before he was learning to read we did regular Zingo to get ready for TK (transitional kindergarten). In the regular version, it’s a race to fill up bingo cards with special tiles. The tiles have pictures with the word on the bottom. It teaches little ones to think fast and that letters associated with words. They start associating the letters with the pictures and really get ready to learn to read.
Sight Word Zingo is a step up from the original version. It helps your child to learn to read Sight words. The Zingo cards have fun drawings with words written in each box. The drawings sometimes give a small hint about what the word is. Like the word said is in a word bubble. This time the tiles have no pictures. When we started playing we started really slowly. I just helped G match the tile with the word on his card and said the words for his copy. Eventually, he picked it up and started learning to read the sight words on his own! We are a competitive family and he loves beating me at games so this got fun quickly! In the beginning, G really wanted to stick with the original version since that one had become easy for him. So we started playing in small increments. Once he got the hang of it he stopped wanting to play the old one since it was too easy.
Apparently, there are math and spelling versions as well! We haven’t tried those, YET!
