My Review of Three Single Wives by Gina LaManna

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE a good spoiler! Before having four kids I used to read lots of books and I would always read the first few chapters, then turn to the end to read the last few chapters to see how it turned out and who the killer was. Now that I don’t have as much time to sit and read, I order books on Audible, throw on some headphones, and listen as I do laundry, clean the kitchen, drive alone, or walk the dogs.
I love that I can get more books in and get more housework done when a book is good. The only downside is that I can’t turn to the final few chapters to cheat. I searched websites like crazy looking for spoilers when I started Three Singles Wives, but had to give up because I couldn’t find any!
When I finished the book I knew I had to write my own review for people like me who need to know how books end before deciding if they want to read. Don’t worry if you like surprises, the spoilers are at the end and I’m writing them in white so you will have to highlight to see them! You don’t have to cheat if you don’t want to!

Three Single Wives Book Spoiler

Three Single Wives opens with a book club meeting in Eliza Tate’s home on February 13, 2019. She’s hosting her friends Annie Wilkes and Penny Sands with the author Marguerite Hill. Eliza seems to be the woman who has it all. She’s beautiful, well off, and has a gorgeous husband. Annie is an exhausted and overwhelmed mom, the author should have interviewed me for creating this character! LOL Penny is new to LA. She’s in her twenties and has stars in her eyes. Marguerite is an author who will do anything to stay relevant and popular. She’s vegan and gluten free when people are watching, but totally sneaks bread and wine when nobody is looking. She reminds me of the big instagram influencers who are up on the latest fashion and diet trends that are all about pretending to be perfect instead of relatable and real. The women are supposed to be talking about Marguerite’s newest book, but the discussion quickly leads to murder.

We then skip forward several months to a courtroom hearing. Someone is dead and now we need to figure out who did it. The book skips back and forth through time and changes from court transcripts to each of the women’s point of view telling what took place months before leading up to the murder. As someone who likes to know what happens at the end I liked the time hop story telling style. I liked hearing what was going through everyone’s head.

Three Single Wives Book Spoiler

I sure I knew exactly who did it. I carried my guess throughout the whole book and dang it, I was wrong! I hate to say it, but felt let down once I knew who the real killer was. I think my idea was better. I still enjoyed the book and recommend it to anyone needing a little break from reality.

The story was interesting without being too deep or dark. It’s an easy read or listen. I got a lot done wanting to finish the story. I only listen if I’m doing something so I finished a lot of laundry! I liked Three Single Wives so much that I am about to start a new book by Gina LaManna called, Secrets and Stilettos. I’m hoping to like this one as much since it’s the first book in the series and when it’s over I’ll know exactly what to listen to next. I am disappointed to see it’s read by a different narrator. The narrator for Three Single Wives did a great job with all the voices. I could tell who each person was. Even smaller characters had their own voices. I’m hoping the woman who reads Secrets and Stilettos is just as good!

Have you read Three Single Wives yet? How did you like it?

[I was sure Marguerite Hill was the killer. She was in the book, but we never read her point of view. She’s fake and selfish. She didn’t like Roman. I would have loved it to be her. Instead it was Ryan, someone who dated Penny for a short time. I actually forgot he existed. I don’t like when the person you are looking for is someone only mentioned a few times. I wanted to see a more developed character as the killer.]
